The objective of this Bachata Competition is to see which couple can best interpret the character of Bachata music and dance regardless of whatever tricks or moves they do. In other words, it’s not the tricks that are important but making them a part of your routine and what Bachata represents.
Official Rules
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
– Open to all couples living in Australia over the
age of 16 years old.
– Participant must be a couple of different
gender.
– Competitors can represent an Australian State, a
Dance School or a Dance Organization.
– There is no limit to the amount of competitors
that can represent a particular school or state.
– There is an entry fee of $20 per dancer/ per
category participating in the Competition.
– By entering this contest, entrants accept and
agree to be bound by these Official Rules.
– The results and decisions of the Judges will be
final, binding, and conclusive on all matters.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
There will be three categories at
the Championship:
The Professional Category
The Non Professional/Amateur Category.
The Team Category
Professionals -
competition among professional dancers intended to give them an
opportunity to take their dancing to the next level, prove
their excellence before other dancers and simply shine on the
dance floor in order to gain the title of Australian
Bachata Champion.
The professional dancer: is one who has
danced for at least 2 years and makes money from dancing or
teaching Bachata.
Amateurs - the objective of the competition at this level
is to distinguish and acknowledge the best non-professional
dancers and to foster the community of like-minded dance-loving
people and bring energy, fun, joy and beauty of dance to young
and grown-ups alike. Winner, 2nd and 3rd Places will be awarded in this
category.
The non-professional/amateur dancer: is
one who has danced for at least 3 months and does not make
money from Bachata.
Teams - the teams can be formed by a minimum of 3
couples and a maximum of 7 couples of any gender combination
dancing Bachata at the same time. Teams can be formed by
Professional and Non Professional dancers alike.
Miscellaneous:
– Contestants can participate in only two
categories as long as the second category is in the Team
Division and they pay the entry fee established by the
participating event per entry.
– Competitors need to provide one ready-to-be-played CD.
One track per CD.
– The DJ will not slow down or speed up your music
for you.
– Competitors must inform the Organizer if they
will enter the stage before or with the music.
– Please contact the Organisers if you are not
sure of the category you belong to.

Fill the “Official Entry Form”
and pay your entry fee as indicated in the form.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Registration deadline closes at 5pm on
Monday 5th October 2009
Note: Viva Magazine GUARANTEES that any
information provided to us will ONLY be used for the purposes
of this Championship and will remain strictly confidential.
THE PRE-SELECTION HEATS
Professionals
A Pre -selection heat for the
Professional Category will be organized at the Grand
Final in Petersham
Amateurs
A Pre -selection heat will be organized
for the Non-Professional Category on the 11th of October and
couples will dance one song drawn from a hat (free style) for 2
minutes and 15 seconds.
At the end of the “pre
selection heat” finalists will be announced and
they will go to compete at the Grand Final on the 24th October.
Teams
A Pre -selection heat for the Team
Category will be organized at the Grand Final in
Petersham
THE GRAND FINAL
The Grand Final will be on Saturday 24th October
at Petersham RSL and all Categories will dance TWO ROUNDS.
Professionals
FIRST ROUND - Up
to 3 couples will dance at the same time one song drawn from a
hat (free style) for 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
SECOND ROUND -
All couples will dance a choreographed song of their choice.
This song must be minimum of 2 minutes and not exceeding 3
minutes
Amateurs
FIRST ROUND - Up
to 6 finalist couples will dance at the same time one song
drawn from a hat (free style) for 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
SECOND ROUND -
All finalist couples will dance a choreographed song of their
choice. This song must be minimum of 2 minutes and not
exceeding 3 minutes.
Teams
ONE ROUND ONLY - Teams
will dance a choreographed song of their choice. This song must
be minimum of 2 minutes and not exceeding 3 minutes
THE JUDGES

JUDGING CRITERIA
Dancers will be judged (from 1 to 10) in
the following categories:
Technique
Timing & Rhythm, overall technique,
body action & lines, chemistry/partnering skills.
Artistic Impressions
choreography/originality, showmanship,
presentation (Costumes are permitted and encouraged, but no
props are allowed), characterization of the dance, audience
reaction.

“Australian Bachata Champion 2009”.
– Cash prize of $1000
– Invitation to perform at the Sydney Bachata
Festival 2010
Second & Third place
– Trophies awarding second and third place
respectively to all dancers.
Amateurs

“Australian Non Professional Bachata Champion
2009”.
– Invitation to perform at the Sydney Bachata

Miscellaneous
By entering this contest, entrant agrees to
release Viva Magazine, and their directors and all others
associated with the development and execution of this
Championship from any claims, actions, and liability for any
injury, losses, damages, resulting from participation in this
contest.
Further more, all finalists agree to have
their names, biographical information, and photograph published
In Viva Magazine and Viva Magazine website.
