Slowly but surely, the music and dance of Latin America are sweeping across Australia. In every city throughout the country, the number of Latin dance schools that offer salsa, tango, rumba, cha cha cha, samba, bachata and any other variation of latin dance are growing by the day.
Sydney Salsa Scene as well as Australian Salsa, has grown enormously in recent times and special latin events like Darling Harbour Fiesta, Sydney Salsa Congress, Australian Salsa Championship, Salsa Extravaganza, Salsa Classic to name a few continue to pack houses with latino lovers.
In the musical front Latin bands, including Club Havana Band, Mi Tierra, Bandolero, Sonora Galaxia, Armandito y su trovason, Banda Cafe Sur and Sonando are on great demand.
Latin dance schools and Sydney's salsa dancing nightclubs and latino restaurants such as: Latin Motion, Latin Dance Australia LDA, Ruedisima, Strictly Salsa, Picante Latin Dance, Salsa Republic, Latin Explosion Dance, La Cita, Port Orient, Vivaz, Las Terrazas are increasingly targeting thousands of people with the rhythms of Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Chile and Colombia.
Over the last 10 years, Australians have been introduced to both the Argentinian and Brazilian versions of barbecue, the asado and churrasco respectively, they have been captivated by the diffusion of the Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance that is Capoeira, thy have moved to the Tango, Salsa and rumba rhythms, and have been entertained by a growing number of well known latin musicians and singers.
This trend is one that is being strongly encouraged and supported by Viva Magazine, the only Australian latin magazine, who have as one of its priorities to promote What's On in Sydney, first and above all the true achievements of the culture and people of latin America. |
